What to expect in your voice lessons:
Each lesson is a one on one private session where we work specifically on your voice and as a team we work together to achieve your individual goals.

Each lesson is recorded on a CD or SD Memory Chip for you to take home and practice to throughout the week.  Practicing to your CD helps you to strengthen your voice, gain confidence and feel and hear the results that you are looking for.

What to bring to your first lesson:
*Bring a signed copy of both the below Contract and Policy sheets. (required)
*Bring a song you are very comfortable with for voice assessment. (CD, MP3 player or minus track)
*Lyric sheet if necessary

Common Questions Regarding Vocal Lessons Answered Here!

How long should I expect to take lessons?
The duration and frequency a student takes voice lessons is compeletely dependent on the age, goals and objectives as well as the particular experiences of each singer.

Can you be too young or too old to start talking singing lessons?
Absolutely not!  If a student can understand the music then they can work to improve their energy and control, thereby accomplishing their goals.

Is it true that a bad coach can ruin your voice?
Unfortunately a bad vocal coach can lead a singer into physically harming their vocal cords (laryngitis, nodules, etc).  Another problem is a coach may teach bad habits that can prevent a singer from maximizing their voice.  The good news is that for most singers the damage can be undone.

Are there certain people born with the gift to sing?
Some certainly are more gifted than others, but as long as you can speak, are not tone deaf and are willing to put your best into learning and practicing then you can sing!  The exciting thing is that the world is filled with distinct voices each with their own unique talent (from singers like Karen Carpenter to Ozzy Osbourne).

Why get vocal lessons if I can already sing?

Vocal cords are muscles and need proper training.  (Imagine a dancer blessed with talent, still needs to practice and train to become the best.)  With age and use your vocal cords can become sore or damaged as well as years of bad habits can limit your ability to perform.  Doreene will guide you through these hazards safely and unlock all of your potential using the Speech Level Singing technique.

Attached are the Contract and Policies forms that are required to be carefully read and signed by all students (and if applicable parent/guardian) beginning January 2007.

The contracts will be kept on file at the License to Sing studios and copies will be made available upon request.
